Lab tests, ultrasounds and scans in Florianópolis — where to get them and how it works

Three different establishments all called "laboratory"

Mixing them up means a wasted trip.

• Laboratório de análises clínicas — blood, urine, stool, swabs. Go here with a referral for tests.
• Posto de coleta — collection only. The material is taken to the main laboratory, the result comes from there. No ultrasound or scans are done here.
• Diagnóstico por imagem / clínica de imagem — ultrasound, X-ray, CT, MRI, mammography. Look for ultrasound here, not in the clinical analysis laboratory.

In Portuguese ultrasound is ultrassonografia or ultrassom; in conversation often ecografia. Doppler ultrasound — ultrassom com Doppler.

How to get an ultrasound through SUS

The procedure is the same across the city and does not depend on the neighborhood:

1. Appointment at the health center for your address — addresses in Health care in Florianópolis — health centers, clinics, UPA and hospitals by neighborhood. You cannot book an ultrasound yourself: the doctor schedules it.
2. The referral goes to the municipal regulation service, which places it in a queue. Urgent cases go ahead of scheduled ones.
3. A place is assigned to you — a polyclinic or a contracted clinic. You are told the address at the time of scheduling, you do not choose it.

Pregnant women have a separate and shorter queue for mandatory exams. A foreigner's right to free exams is the same as to consultations: the system must accept anyone in the country, see Medical care and insurance in Brazil.

Ingleses and the north of the island

The main split in the north: tests are done in Ingleses itself, while CT scans are done on SC-401. Ultrasound is the only heavy imaging available in the neighborhood.

⚠️ At the address Rodovia Armando Calil Bulos, 6201 they operate under two names. In the federal registry it is Clínica Mercosul, in the establishments catalog — Clinifemina (rooms 212, 213 and 214), both have the same phone: (48) 3282-0499. Ultrasound, mammography and colposcopy are performed there under the second name. Go to the address and don't be surprised by the sign.

Cheaper in the north — two addresses. Both in Ingleses, both accept self-paying patients.

Medprev at Rua Intendente João Nunes Vieira, 909, room 03: a marketplace selling single services at its own prices, consultations and exams including ultrasound, tests and X-ray. Weekdays from 07:30 to 18:00, phone (48) 3084-9982, WhatsApp (48) 98412-0977. Prices are not published on the website; you have to ask for them by message.

Clínica Médica Saúde Popular at Rodovia Armando Calil Bulos, 5353, second floor, room 301: general practitioner consultation R$ 110, gynecologist and dermatologist R$ 190, endocrinologist R$ 260, psychiatrist R$ 280 (as of Sep 2026). Weekdays 8–19, Saturday and holidays 8–13.

No one publishes the price of the exam itself in the north: all ultrasound amounts in the money section refer to the center. Whether it is more expensive there or cheaper is unknown.

How much it costs and how to pay less

The order here is: first check the free route, then compare paid options, and only after that go to the first clinic you find.

Zero via SUS. Exams through the public route are free, and this applies to a foreigner just as to a Brazilian. The price is time: the referral is issued by the health center doctor, and the date is set by the municipal regulation service. The procedure is explained above.

Privately. Prices as of Sep 2026 from the catalog where establishments publish them themselves:

The price spread is huge. The same transvaginal ultrasound in one city costs both R$ 100 and R$ 350: a difference of three and a half times for the identical exam. No discount card gives that much, but three calls do. When asking, use the word particular: this is the price for someone who pays privately, without insurance.

Who publishes the transvaginal ultrasound price, from lowest to highest: cheaper does not mean worse, and vice versa.

Two publish a fetal morphology ultrasound price: Clínica Médica Trindade for R$ 250 and Clinus for R$ 400. Abdominal ultrasound — Centro de Saúde Felizmed at Rua Cônego Bernardo, 121 for R$ 210.

One-time sale platforms. Medprev and similar services sell single exams cheaper than a clinic pricelist: you pay only for what you used, there are no enrollment or monthly fees. This is not insurance: such a platform does not provide coverage and remains an intermediary with its own price.

Low-cost clinics (clínicas populares). A separate private medicine format with noticeably lower prices. The AmorSaúde network has a location in Florianópolis: a general practitioner visit with the Cartão de TODOS costs R$ 30, a specialist R$ 40, without the card the first consultation is R$ 60 and from the second on R$ 120 (as of Sep 2026, prices confirmed on 3 Nov 2026). Exams are also done there.

⚠️ All amounts are a snapshot on the date of checking, not a pricelist. Confirm them by phone before going.

What to bring

• Doctor's referral (pedido or requisição) — paper or electronic.
• Photo ID; a CPF is usually requested for registration.
• Insurance card, if you go through it — and check in advance that the specific establishment is in your plan's network: the network is defined by the insurer, not by you.
• Cartão SUS, if the exam is via the public route.
• For blood tests — check fasting (jejum): some exams require it.

Private laboratories almost always publish results on their website accessible with the login on the form. Picking up paper separately is usually not necessary.
