- The house was built by merchant José Antônio de Pinho in 1840–1850s
- In 1902 it was bought by Polish immigrant Gottlieb Burgastaller Gerlach
- Since 2006 it has housed the municipal foundation of culture and tourism of São José, with a library on the first floor
- Visits and book lending are free. Open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 18:00, and also on Sundays during the Feira da Freguesia fair
